About Tanzania
Stretching across a vast section of East Africa, Tanzania is larger than several major European countries combined. Its landscapes shift from the snowy peak of Kilimanjaro to the endless plains of the Serengeti and the spice-laden shores of Zanzibar. A significant share of the country is protected land, creating one of Africa’s most impressive networks of national parks and conservation areas.
The northern safari circuit brings together the Serengeti, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Tarangire National Park, and Lake Manyara in a way that feels complete and deeply varied. Arusha, set beneath Mount Meru and served by Kilimanjaro International Airport, anchors this circuit and connects easily to major international gateways.
The Great Migration
In the northern corner of Serengeti National Park, the Great Migration settles into a season shaped by movement, tension and some of the year’s most remarkable wildlife interactions. As the herds gather along the Mara River, thousands of wildebeest and zebras test the banks each day, pushing forward in search of fresh grazing on the far side. Nile crocodiles wait in the channels, big cats follow the herds across the open plains and the shifting patterns of dust and hooves create a rhythm that defines life in this part of the ecosystem.

Best time to go to Tanzania
- Dry or Peak Season
- Mid Season
- Rainy or Low Season
The best time to visit Tanzania is during the dry season from June to October because the weather is pleasant, wildlife is easier to spot around water sources and safari conditions are excellent in places like Serengeti National Park and Ngorongoro Conservation Area. January to March is also a great time especially for witnessing the wildebeest calving season and enjoying greener landscapes with fewer crowds. For beach holidays in Zanzibar, the best months are June to October and December to February, while March to May is generally less ideal due to heavy rains, though it can be good for budget travelers.
National Parks to Explore in Tanzania
Tanzania Northern Circuit: Four of Africa’s Greatest Parks in One Safari

Serengeti National Park
In the heart of northern Tanzania, the Serengeti National Park stretches across vast grasslands that support one of the world’s most intact ecosystems, where the Great Migration moves in a steady cycle and large predators thrive in healthy numbers.

Ngorongoro Conservation Area
The Ngorongoro Conservation Area combines volcanic highlands, Masai pastoral lands and rich wildlife habitats. At its heart is the Ngorongoro Crater, a natural amphitheater with some of Africa’s most reliable sightings of lions, elephants and black rhinos.

Tarangire National Park
In northern Tanzania, Tarangire National Park is known for its massive elephant herds, ancient baobab trees and a seasonal concentration of wildlife along the Tarangire River creating one of the region’s most rewarding dry-season safari landscapes.
