About Rwanda
Known as the Land of a Thousand Hills, its scenery is striking from the moment you arrive in Kigali with rolling green hills rising into volcanic peaks. The landscapes range from the gorilla-filled forests of Volcanoes National Park to the wildlife-rich savannah of Akagera National Park and the ancient rainforest of Nyungwe Forest National Park.
With strong conservation, excellent guiding and high-end lodges, Rwanda offers a polished safari experience. At its core is gorilla trekking in the Virunga Mountains: a rare and powerful encounter that defines any visit.
Gorilla Trekking
Gorilla trekking in Rwanda is one of Africa’s most powerful wildlife encounters and it begins on the misty slopes of Volcanoes National Park. Travelers come from around the world to hike through the bamboo forests of the Virunga Mountains in search of the country’s habituated mountain gorilla families. The experience feels calm and intimate, with guides leading you through quiet jungle until you’re standing just a few meters from these remarkable primates.

- Mid Season
- Rainy or Low Season
Rwanda can be visited throughout the year but the most favorable period for gorilla trekking and general safari experiences is during the dry season from June to September. The wetter months are usually less ideal, with heavier rainfall occurring during the long rains from April to May and a shorter rainy spell in November which can make trekking conditions more challenging.
