About Kenya

Kenya offers the classic African safari experience with a mix of dramatic landscapes and exceptional wildlife. The Masai Mara’s vast plains host the Great Wildebeest Migration, while Amboseli delivers unforgettable views of Mount Kilimanjaro and its famous elephant herds. In the north, Samburu stands out for its rare species and the Rift Valley adds flamingo-filled lakes to the scenery. Beyond the parks, Kenya pairs its safaris with white-sand beaches and rich Swahili culture along the Indian Ocean coast.

The country’s wildlife diversity is remarkable, with more than 25000 animal species and around 1100 bird species supported by strong conservation efforts and a well-developed network of national parks and private conservancies. Its capital, Nairobi brings another layer to the experience with its energetic urban culture and easy access to nearby wildlife areas.

The Masai Mara

Kenya’s most famous wildlife reserve, celebrated for its open golden plains, big cat populations and the seasonal movement of millions of wildebeest and zebras during the Great Migration. It forms the northern extension of the Serengeti ecosystem, creating one of the richest animal habitats in Africa. Game drives here often reveal lions, cheetahs and leopards within minutes, along with large elephant and buffalo herds scattered across the grasslands.

Best time to go to Kenya

  • Dry or Peak Season
  • Mid Season
  • Rainy or Low Season

The best time to visit Kenya is during the dry seasons from June to October and January to February when the weather is sunny, wildlife viewing is excellent and conditions are ideal for safaris in destinations like Masai Mara National Reserve, Amboseli National Park and Tsavo National Park. July to October is especially popular because it is the best time to witness the Great Migration in the Masai Mara where millions of wildebeest and zebras cross from Tanzania into Kenya. Travelers visiting the coast including Mombasa and Diani Beach, will also enjoy warm beach weather during these months while the rainy seasons from March to May and November are quieter and better suited for budget travel and lush scenery.
